Our clients, a couple with four children, were nearing the end of a three-year renovation when they engaged Vellum Interiors to finish off key spaces with furniture and accessories. After such a long process, they were feeling “decision fatigue”.  

Gathering inspiration from the new home’s architecture and proximity to the outdoors, along with the client’s beautiful art collection and their low-key, yet sophisticated approach to life, Alex worked to find pieces that would tie in seamlessly with the clients’ vision to create a modern Australian beach house. Vellum Interiors re-worked the furniture plan, then sourced furniture, lighting and soft furnishings for two living spaces, the dining room and three separate outdoor spaces. We were challenged to find pieces that fit in with some of the clients’ existing pieces, and the look and feel of the new architecture and finishes, and also needed to make sure the selected items would withstand the elements — namely, the abundance of sunlight and moisture in the air from the nearby beaches. 

As Jess Bellef, the writer of the story about this home in InsideOut magazine put it — “the result was sandy textures and hues paired with oceanic blues and breezy neutrals that reference the coastal location, while clean-lined furniture and flashes of brass have kept the look a notch or two above ‘beachy casual’.”

The home now truly reflects the family, the surroundings of the home, and the architecture of the home, with interesting pieces and colours to make it feel like home.
