Before & After – Queens Park Residence

The spaces in this project were completely transformed — in fact, it was probably one of the biggest transformations we’ve done!

These clients came to us having recently moved into their “forever home” — a 5-bed Federation house in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs — with their newborn and 2 year old son. Having moved from a small terrace house, they didn’t have enough furniture to fill the house. What’s more, they didn’t know what to actually *do* with all the extra space, in particular the two rooms at the front of the house, which would have been the original sitting and formal dining rooms. The hallway was also a little lifeless and unwelcoming.

We set to work finding the best way to use the spaces. A key consideration was taking inspiration from the existing architecture and history of the house, and layering that with contemporary fittings and furniture to make the spaces work best for the family. We re-configured the floor plan and switched around the living and dining rooms, so that the dining room was closer to the kitchen, and the living room was more of an enclosed, cosy space.

The result is a stunning transformation that has added warmth, life and character to the spaces. Dividing the sitting and dining rooms has also given the clients much more extra space for entertaining and retreating.

The hallway needed to be a little more friendly and welcoming, and to reflect the character of the homeowners.

Dining Room

The dining room was previously the lounge room, but being an extension of the hallway, it wasn’t very cosy.

Lounge Room

Previously a cramped dining room, it was difficult to walk all the way around the table, and a little too close to the fireplace.

What the clients had to say:

Everyone who comes to our house now cannot believe what Alex has created. To adding the perfect cornices, cabinetry, paint colours, furniture, lighting, styling pieces and wall coverings. Every detail was taken care of.

It wasn’t until I sat in my now favourite room of the house with the fireplace on, my babies in bed and complete silence that I truly got to appreciate what a brilliant job Alex had done. To be able to perfectly balance my husband’s and my taste; which are on different ends of the spectrum, and that we both love what Alex has created is a true credit to her.

Thank you so so much for creating such a classy, warm and enveloping space in our home, we will definitely see you in the future as we work our way through the rest!
